The speed of life keeps us on the go constantly. As moms, our eyes often open before the sun has even risen. Our heads are often the last to hit the pillow. Trying to find a moment to slow down is harder than words can describe. We have so much to do each day that we can’t even stop to think about, much less look at our to-do lists. This is a problem. God never called us to live running from one thing to the next every day of our lives. His Word tells us that we are to, “Be still and know that I am God.”. If God Himself asks us to “Be still”, who are we to disobey?
I am the chief of sinners regarding living an all too busy life. A life that often keeps my eyes from being on Jesus each day. It is not my desire to live as such, but it is a choice I make daily.
In the midst of the responsibilities, overwhelming at times, that we have – how can we take time each day to refocus our eyes on Jesus?
How I’m Refocusing My Eyes on Jesus
Lately, I’ve simply tried to ensure that I do my devotions first thing, as soon as I’m out of bed. While this seems to work for a few weeks, often my to-do list takes over and my time with Jesus is forgotten.
However, I’ve learned throughout my life that God and I have something in common — we are planners! So, I’m going back to doing something I used to do a long time ago. I’m putting my devotions on my to-do list.
This may not seem like the right way to ensure that my eyes are focused on Jesus each day, but it works for me. Why? Because the most important things that need to be done daily in my life are on my to-do list. Therefore, shouldn’t time with Jesus on it?
Everything I need to do each day goes on my to-do list. With all of the plates that I have to balance, I need daily to-do lists, otherwise, I won’t get anything done.
4 Ways You Can Refocus Your Eyes on Jesus
Even if you don’t plan our your days to the degree that I do, make a plan that ensures that you have time with Jesus every day. When my children were little, I made sure I did my devotions during nap time. I’ve also done them late at night when my kids are in bed. When we have time with Jesus isn’t important.
There is always going to be something else that “needs” our attention. We have to be faithful to ensure that we don’t allow those things to keep us so busy that we’re collapsing at the end of the day without any energy to keep our eyes open without spending time with Jesus.
Whether you aren’t sure where to start refocusing your eyes on Jesus or you just need to refocus on Him during a difficult day, pray. Prayer changes things. It changes circumstances. It changes you.
Music has an amazing ability to refocus your eyes on Jesus because there is power in praising the name of Jesus. Oftentimes I turn on Christian radio via my Jango app or my hymn playlist during the day to praise Jesus throughout my day.
I love Jesus. Without Him I am nothing. My flesh fails me. Daily I must ensure that I refocus my eyes on Jesus so that I do not get lost in the pace of my own creation.
