I remember when 50 Shades of Grey came out. Women all over the world were singing its praises. I don’t remember ever hearing so many women talking about a certain book so much. I will admit I never really asked my friends what it was that the book was about. Instead as most bloggers do I turned to reviews. What I read was sicking to me. Women were and are actually paying money to read about some woman having harmful premarital sex. Even worse is that Christian women are choosing to read this kind of material.
Now, I never spoke out about it before I was quickly reminded of this horrible book as once again it has become a huge part of conversation again!! I was shocked and somewhat amazed until I really thought about it. Of course it is popular. We are living in such a world of impurity why wouldn’t trash become popular while Christian writers who share Biblical truths within their books suffer. We live in a world where role models to our youth promote sex and yet missionaries suffer greatly and often times will never have their name uttered by these same youths.
50 Shades of Grey does not belong in a Christian home. When it goes into DVD form it also does not belong in our DVD players either. The fact is that when we open our minds to such filth we are allowing Satan to have a field day with our minds. We are choosing the world’s ways and not God’s ways. We are saying that it is perfectly fine to join in on perversions and to give into the flesh.
We are warned of this in Ephesians 5:3-6
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Paul warned us to abstain from these things. They are not simply a suggestions. Far from it!! We are also warned that those who do these thing will receive the wrath of God…. Is reading a nasty novel really worth that!?!? I would think not. Would a two hour movie be worth that !?!?! Again the answer for myself is a huge no.
Now I have heard some say that it is still ok to read and watch such things because after all God is a God of grace. However, when we knowing do things that are wrong then we are purposefully sinning. We are making a mockery our of God and hurting our testimony. (I don’t know about you but I sin enough without realizing it. I really don’t need to test the waters on this one)
John 9:41 states:
Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.
We can not claim we know no better when God has laid it on so many hearts to speak out!!
I encourage you to take a stand with me. My dear friends I pray that you continue to stand firm refusing to subject yourself to such sexual impurities and instead be a living example of the truth.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Amen!! YES! It truly is shocking how many women - and Christian women - are accepting this stuff. It is clear something is very lacking in their lives. An unhealthy view of sex doesn’t just happen. There is some type of wounding, some type of unfulfillment. Not that it is an excuse. It is also an easy thing to get trapped into. Lust. A woman’s need to feel more desirable. I don’t know. Maybe a combination of things and the only solution is Christ as Lord.
I wrote a few blog posts on this topic as well.
You are not alone fighting this!! You have sisters in arms!
Feel free to share your links to those posts in the comments if you would like.
Well said!
