We all know that making time for our husband is important. Yet there are lots of reasons why this sometimes gets put on the back burner. Money, time and clashing of schedules seem to be some of the main things. At our house, this becomes a problem a lot. Typically because after running around all day I am tired and worn down. Yet, I can tell when we haven’t had a date night in a while because well I start getting a tad crabby.
On our budget, it doesn’t leave a lot of “going out” money not to mention have you ever tried to find a sitter for 4 kids. Yea that is a bill I am just not willing nor can I pay. So I thought I would share a few date night favorites that we enjoy. Maybe they will inspire you to come up with a few ideas of your own. After all, it is important that we keep our marriage flame going.
Cheap Date Nights In Ideas:
- Turn the lights down low and enjoy a meal together. Now this one is one of my favorites. Typically because it means that my husband and I are in the kitchen together cooking. We wait for the kids to go to bed and then we jump into action. Sneaking around the kitchen, cooking and just talking. Once we are ready to eat we are already in full blown conversation mode. As much as I love chatting with other people nothing beats late night conversations with my husband.
- A movie just for two. As much as I love kid movies there are sometimes that I need a movie that is geared for someone over the age of 5. A couple options we use are Netflix and Redbox. Both of which are really cheap options to get a movie fill in. Typically we will have this little movie session with some sort of snack and lots of laughs.
- Pull out the board games. Yes, I am a kid at heart. I love playing board games. I like it even better when I am playing with actual rules and not what the rules a toddler made up. Not to mention the conversations that can take place while playing these games can become simply amazing.
- Spring for a sitter and go window shopping. Every so often my mother-in-law will take our kids for us to be able to go out. During these times we are able to go to the park and walk. Sometimes we even go do a little window shopping.
Whatever it is that you must do make sure that you are making time for each other. It is extremely important that we stay connected with our husbands and not just in the father of our children since. So what are some things that you and your husband like to do together to sneak in some date time?
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Put the kids to bed and eat in together sounds positively delightful!
Oh it is the best. Date night in your pajamas 🙂
That is so true. Thanks for the reminder.
We are a family of 6 living on a teacher’s salary, so I’m always looking for cheap date night ideas! Another one we love is to people watch. We make a scavenger hunt style list (man with bandana, woman with lots of kids, someone with a mohawk, etc.) and then we sit with a cheap cup of coffee and see who can spot the people from our list first. Thanks for this post and encouraging strengthening marriages! Visiting from Time Warp Wife!
Yes we are a family of 6 as well on a one income salary so I totally get the making your dollar stretch 🙂 I am so glad you stopped by and YAY for new ideas!!
Love these ideas! We use a lot of them as well! 🙂 <3
what great ideas! I think ‘cheap’ date nights are the best!
We recently opted to stay in for date night - it was cool and stormy - we gave instructions to the children (what a blessing they are able to watch out for themselves and put themselves to bed nowadays!) and we fixed a supper of cheese, crackers, fruit and chocolate and played a board game while watching a movie, behind our closed bedroom door.
Window shopping sounds like fun - I think I’ll mention the furniture store next week.
