During a period in my life that I did not want to allow God into my life I remember deal making with God. Pleading that if certain situations would just go the way that I needed them to then I would change my ways. I would never allow myself to be put into bad situations again. God being a loving and faithful God of course would offer assistance and though I refused to see the full blown miracles then I can certainly see them looking back now. Instead of giving Him credit for fixing my many mistakes I was the one who tried to take the credit.
It was deal making at its finest………
This time period in my life was something that I was reminded of over and over again. As I read in Exodus 6-10 I could not help but to be ashamed. Ashamed of the foolish woman I once was as I seen Pharaoh make the same mistakes I had many years ago. Every time things went wrong for Pharaoh and his people he would call Moses in and make false promises. And though as I have heard others talk about how wrong Pharaoh was (and of course he was), I could not help but to continue to think can we really with good authority judge his deal making.
How many times in our own Christian walks have we made deals with God and not followed through?
Lord, help me get out of this speeding ticket and I will never do it again.
Lord, help me out of this financial mess and I promise I will go help someone else in need.
Lord, use me any way that you want to but please do not expect me to step out of my comfort zone.
We have all been in the deal making business with God and we have all broken our deals with God on more than one occasion (then again maybe I am in a league all my own).
However, once again this week we see God’s amazing grace. God, knowing that Pharaoh’s heart was hardened still accepts Pharaoh’s pleas. God knew what the outcome was going to be and yet He still took away every single plague. I was reminded this week that even those with hardened hearts need to have grace extended to them. If I were to be completely honest this is a hard one for me to choke down this week.
You see until now I have not thought about my broken deals. Friends, there are a lot of deals that I must make good on. There is also a lot of grace that I need to extend to those who have also broken deals with me. After all if God is willing to extend grace to a man who openly denied His every existence and who tortured His beloved people should I not also do the same.
How about you? Have you been in the deal making business and have a lot of paying up to do? Or do you have someone in your life who you need to extend grace to? I encourage you to join me as I start to make good on my deals. After all I don’t know about you but I really do not long to be in the same category as Pharaoh any longer.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,

What a fresh perspective! I think when I’ve read this account in the Bible I’ve always identified with Moses or the Israelites, but as you pointed out, there is much to be learned from Pharaoh as well! Thanks for sharing your perspective this morning!
There was so much to choke down this week in our reading that really I think I could have written all month and never even touched the surface. Yet, Pharaoh has just really struck a cord with me.
Oh wow oh wow, I love how you worded this! Fantastic perspective on our reading in Exodus this week! I got something simliar but I just love how you worded it!
Awww thank you Mary. I am glad that you enjoyed it. Thank you for stopping by my little corner.
