As we have been reading 2nd Peter we have found that it is riddled with warnings. Warnings of those who will tickle your ears and not give you whole Godly truths. I am sure this happens a lot in the world today. In fact I have grown to actually not want to watch to many preachers on television for this very reason.
The problem with ear ticklers is that they lead us astray. They cause us to think that just because we are a good person then we need to do nothing else. As we all know this is simply not true. In fact we are not OK just because we are good people because even the nicest person in the world is riddled with sin. It is only through Jesus that we are saved not by our good works.
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Peter 2:1
But, how does one know that they are being exposed to an ear tickler? Well that one my friend is very simple.
Do their sermons occasionally step on your toes and cause your soul to take note?
Are the teaching Biblical truths?
Can they back what they are saying with Bible scripture?
Is all they talk about are great things and never share any negative?
Do they promote that fact that nothing bad is ever going to happen to you?
If so then you my friend have an ear tickler.
Now don’t get me wrong the Bible does provide us with promises and hopes. It does offer us encouragement but it never says that carrying our cross will be easy. As I always tell my children nothing worth having should be easy.
So be careful my friends, study God’s Word and take note where you are getting your messages from. Ear ticklers are everywhere and they will lead you from the purpose God has in store for you.
