When a person looses an individual that they cared deeply about one of the hardest steps to take is the one that requires them to face the new reality of life. Sometimes it is hard to remember when facing this reality that never again will things be the same. No matter how hard it is, however, it is still a much-needed step in the grieving process to move forward.
Part of living in this new reality involves having new responsibilities, new ways of doing things, new schedules, ad new traditions. - Grieving with Hope
Taking those steps into reality is hard!! With each step, you are reminded that though you are still here working the loved one is gone. Each day you have one less person to confide in. Each season you are faced with the reality that you are making choices and calls that you never thought you would have to make without your loved one’s help and guidance.
Almost daily a person suffering from loss wonders when their life will actually return back to normal. The fact is that life will never be the same. We will never have our loved ones back on this Earth. Instead, we must focus on our new reality. We have to face a new reality and we have to constantly remind ourselves that in the coming months, weeks, days, hours and sometimes minutes that though we are facing a lot of firsts we never thought we would have to that we are not alone. We have God and we have those around us that God has placed in our lives.
How Am I Doing with Facing Reality?
Last week I was slapped with a lot of realities. I was reminded that I have to remember that though my friend’s work is done….Mine is still not finished. I finished up one of the last projects for my dear friend and though it was sad I walked away knowing that had she seen this project she would have been beyond honored. I know that these are the first of many steps in this ministry world without my friend but I take comfort in the fact that God is right here holding my hand.
