The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:25
Before Sunday School at our Church we gather the children together and we sing worship songs with them. Partially because it gives them a chance to get some wiggles out but the main reasoning is because those childhood songs that we all learned when we are little hold some very valuable lessons that we use well into adulthood. Currently their favorite is “Father Abraham” but in close second is “The Wise Man and The Foolish Man”. But how does this song teach us about faith and trust?
The Foolish Man Built His House Upon The Sand:
A foolish man puts his faith and trust on things of this world. Nothing here in this world can be guaranteed with 100% certainty. Our homes can be gone within a blink of an eye, jobs could be lost tomorrow morning and our cars can break down. We put our faith in people. Yet doctors can make mistakes, politicians who hold our fate can make mistakes, our families make mistakes and even we make mistakes. Yet we still continue to put to much faith on things and not God. This is foolish.
Sometimes we even put or faith on our good deeds. We think that if we are a good person and do right by people then everything else for us will work out in the end. Often times we see that this is not the case. Bad things happen to good people all the time. It seems that those who do not live by Biblical principles seem to be rewarded in this world a lot quicker and we become dishearten. There are even people who think that these good deed alone are going to get in heaven. However if we are truly saved we know that this is far from the case because our good deeds alone will get us no where.
The Wise Man Builds His House Upon The Rock:
Our Rock is Jesus. When we put all of our faith and trust in God all things seem to fall right into place right when they need to. Maybe not always when we want them to but in God’s timing. Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to at all because God has other plans. Plans that we really can not see at its fullest at the time. It is because well we are unable to truly know God;s vision for us until we need to know.
All the things that happen are molding us into what we need to be. All the things that have happened to us where to teach of valuable lessons that the were going to need to know down the road. They all help us build in faith and trust in God.
This is why studying God’s word is so important!! Because it helps strengthening our relationship with God. It helps us continue building our foundation on our Rock. So that no matter what storm comes through we will be able to stand tall and come out victorious.
God never promises bad things will never happen. But He does promise He will never leave us. But we ourselves have to build our foundation in Him.
So which are you? Are you the foolish man who is putting more faith and trust in the things of this world? Or are you the wise man who knows that putting all your faith and trust in God is the only way to truly build a wonderful foundation that can conquer anything?
