This week while blogging through the Bible I have notice a trend..Focusing On God. You see as we have been in Genesis we have seen what happens to those who forgot where their focus should be. Instead they focused on their own selfish desires and that led to ultimately their destruction. Last week we talked about the flood and this week we seen the destruction of the people who were building the tower of Babel (Genesis 11). Not that God killed them, instead He caused them to no longer be able to understand each other. Kinda sad when you think about it. After all how many times does God have to remind us where our focus needs to be?
Also this week we were introduced to Abram (Genesis 12-13). A man who loved God and wanted to bless Him. So much so he was willing to leave the land where he grew up to follow the direction of God. Scary stuff. Being willing to go where ever God wants you to go without question. Yet, we notice that even Abram was flawed and he was also dealt with. But, God also continued to show him grace and chances to fix the wrong doings that he had done. This made Abram one of God’s favorites.
It is easy to start to only focus on what we want…As a matter of fact chances are we worry more about ourselves then we do anyone else. Yet, this attitude is what brings destruction in our walk with God. No longer are we serving with a servant’s heart instead we are focused on being self serving. This mindset causes us to be unusable to God until we meet our own rock bottom. Here is when God shows us grace.
What happens to us however when we choose to focus solely on God?
- We are pleasing to God
- We provide a greater testimony
- We become tested more by Satan
- We learn to control ourselves
- We stumble and receive grace from God to try again
Focusing on God keeps our lives balanced. You see once we choose to focus on God we do not let things to get in our way of what God wants from us. Don’t get me wrong we all stumble on this. We all fall short. After all we are human. Yet, we are given forgiveness because God wants us to succeed.
Another thing that we get from focusing on God is the privilege to follow His lead. Abram started his journey by going to Egypt. He put his trust in God. The same holds true for us today. God puts us in situations to strengthen our focus on Him. For those who know me know that I have a huge fear of speaking in public. I love being the one in the background. I don’t even mind doing all the work, I just don’t want to be seen. Yet, in the past couple of years God has had me start this ministry, do a little online vlogging and even had me start talking in front of people. This is all being done solely because of God. Because my focus is on pleasing Him and only Him. Once I surrender myself to Him and started shifting my focus on God true growth into who God wanted me to be could start taking place. Does this mean I don’t stumble? Nope, I stumble and fall just like everyone else. But, I have the joy in knowing I serve a forgiving and loving God…. Commit to God and His ways….
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. Proverbs 16:3
Where is your focus? Is it on the things of this world? I would love to pray for you. Is God leading you out of your comfort zone? I would love to pray for you.
