I think there is a huge almost universal groan come Monday morning. One that can be heard around the world. I, myself know that though I look at each day as a blessing I can not help but to feel a bit overwhelmed on Mondays. This overwhelmed feeling will then lead me straight into the housework blahs.
Don’t get me wrong I do things on the weekends. After all with a home of six people laundry will not simply wait until Monday morning unless I want to feel like I am wrestling lions at the circus with a chair. But, honestly I look around and I see about a million things I did not do over the weekend. However, I refuse to feel guilty. After all I did exactly what I needed to do over the weekend- I spent time with my family.
The fact is that the housework blahs effect us all even when it isn’t a Monday and this is simply not ok!! If we are honest with ourselves we know that we are suppose to want to serve our family in this manner. Yet, sometimes those blahs take over even when we do not mean for them to. We can’t help it..It is human nature to get burned out.
So the way I look at it we have two options we can allow our housework to overcome us to the point that we simply tune out the mess and check out what is on Netflix. Or we can pull deep down within ourselves knowing that, yet gain we will clean our homes and then we can go to bed thinking that we accomplished something.
My go to Bible verse when dealing with the housework blahs is:
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24
What a swift kick this verse delivers to me when I begin to feel sorry for myself. Because even though my children and often times even my husband doesn’t notice my efforts. God notices. Truth be told we do not serve our families because it makes them happy. We do so because it is pleasing to God. I love this verse so much that I actually have it in the front of my home management binder.
Another thing I like to do is to get on some worship music. KLove is totally my favorite but well currently we use our roku to stream music and I have yet to find KLove on that. However, I can type in my favorite artist and surprise I get the music I love anyway. Almost instantly I am so caught up in worship that cleaning my toilet really does seem all that bad.
Finally I have to remind myself how blessed I am. There are so many women out there who would love to have a family to serve. Therefore, I owe it to God and to those other women to do the best that I can do. To attempt to serve them with a grateful heart. After all at the end of the day I would totally miss their many little messes.
I would love to hear from you: How do you beat the housework blahs?
