Recently I found myself hit with some hard news. Someone I am very close to in my family was hit with a huge health scare. I was crushed because this is a person that I rely on a lot. Instantly I turned to my old nature. I went around sad and mad all at one time. My husband was trying to comfort me but really it just wasn’t helping me until he pointed out that i was being selfish. That stopped me right in my tracks.
So what do we do when it seems like things are crumbling around us? How are we suppose to handle the cold hard truths that no one wants to face? Of course we all know we are suppose to turn to God and yet for some reason it seems to be hard for us. I had to truly think on these questions because I know I am guilty of it myself.
It is so easy to praise God in the good times when our men get promotions, the kids get great check ups at the doctor and we find extra money in our pocket books that we truly needed. But when we are faced with health scares how do we praise God for that?
I think of Job. He lost everything including his good health yet he did not give up hope. All those around him tried to convince him that it was possibly something he had done wrong and yet he stayed true.
He was able to do so because he had a wonderful relationship with God. I imagine that he had talks with God and that he knew that God loved him. Just as God loves us. When we start out in these times of doubt we need to stop right then and pray. We need to pray harder, study more and rely on God even more. We need to be willing to hand it over to God and we need to have the strength to lay the problem at God’s feet, then trust that what ever happens is happening for a reason.
Now I am not saying that it is easy. What I am saying is that there is a great comfort in knowing that all my problems can be handled by God. Will the out come always be the way I think it should be? Nope. But God’s wisdom far out weights my own wisdom and understanding. If it where up to me no one would ever die, kids would never get sick, cars would never break down, bills would pay themselves and I would never learn to rely on God the way I need to. This is not how God intended things to be. He wants us to look to Him for answers and understanding. He wants us to learn to hand the situations to Him and allow Him to handle it. These are the things that make out testimonies great, these are the things that can help a non-believer believe and the person who is going through a similar situation gain hope.
By the way…. The health scare that rocked my world turned out to be easily treated so after handling it over to God and learning my lesson He took care of it. Because God is awesome and reliable.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
When the Bible tells us to make our petitions known through thanksgiving, we are praying the answer, not the problem. We are not thankful the for problem, but thankful for the answer that is coming. BY praying the scripture, we are praying the answer. You are right on! Thank you
You are so right. It is hard to remember in the moment but ultimately it is what brings us the greatest comfort.
thank you for the honesty in this post Bridget! Also- thank you for linking up with A Look At the Book and Women of Worship this week! We hope you will come back! 🙂
Thank you for coming by and I most certainly will 🙂
I find that in great times of troubles, our best bet is to leave everything at the altar of the Lord. The funny thing is, this is so hard to do sometimes, because we become engrossed or so upset because of the problem.
I agree with your insight that we are to look to God for the answers, and hand over our problems to him. That is the way we should be doing things, but not alway the case. Sometimes these things are easier said than done-especially in times of trouble!
I pray that we can all work on this during the times that we are weak & and I love the encouragement that you are sharing to have us to look to Him.
I hope you have a great weekend!
I agree it is hard to do sometimes. I am a I can fix it myself kinda person. Which does not ever go well. It is certainly something I am working on.
