Confession: At the end of the night after running around all day I am not in the greatest of moods. In fact my husband would be the first one to say that if you want something from me then you better ask me early in the day. It is almost as if I have a kindness meter and it drops well below empty about 6pm. Just when my family needs me the most. It is certainly not something that I have ever really thought about. However it is something that God has laid on my heart to change.
You see long about 6:30 at night my smile is gone. No longer am I serving my family joyfully. Instead I am doing so out of what seems to be obligation. As you can imagine it is also in those moments that I may not be the most gracious mom because well apparently when my kindness meter drops so does the gracious meter.
It wasn’t until I was praying to God one day about my children and their sometimes disgruntle attitudes towards serving that God slapped me with a simple truth. They were learning this behavior from me.
Ouch!!
1 Corinthians 10:31 states:
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (ESV)
No matter what time of day it is and no matter what we are doing we are suppose to be doing it with the same mindset that we would serve God. After all God is the one who has given us the homes that we live in (that require cleaning), He gives us the children who require instruction and He gives us our husbands who need us to help them.
As I thought more and more about my children’s hearts I realized that in order for them to change their hearts I needed to be a better example myself. I needed to show my children what it is suppose to look like. You see anytime we are trying to instill one of God’s principles into our children’s hearts we need to make sure that we ourselves are doing the same things.
My prayer today is that you will join me as I strive to serve my family the way I long to serve the Lord during all parts of my day and not just in certain penciled in portions.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
