We often talk about how we are so thankful for the forgiveness that God provides us over our past transgressions but do we ourselves provide this forgiveness when it comes to forgiving others?
This week during my Good Morning Girls devotions this is exactly the question I am left with. You see Joesph has been a topic of ours for a few weeks now and once again we seen even more of Joesph. This time we find that Joesph’s father dies and the brothers are fearful that now they will be punished for all that they had done to Joesph in the past. Yet we find that Joesph provided them with complete forgiveness. Oh was a weight was probably lifted off the brothers when they were reassured that they were in fact forgiven even though they had done nothing to deserve it.
But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them. Genesis 50:19-21
Now this left me pondering have I forgiven all those who have wronged me in the past to the point that I am willing to simply say forget about it. If I were to be truthful I would say that there are in fact relationships in my life that I haven’t gotten to that point yet. Some of which I am on my knees more and more so these days to get to that point. This is a matter of the heart. A deep matter of the heart.
God forgives us of all that we have done. I think that we can all agree that all sin is equal. All sin ultimately is against God and that all sin leaves a ugly wall between ourselves and God until we seek forgiveness. Yet God gives that forgiveness quickly. Why is it that we feel that we should not do the same. We go around feeling justified by our feelings. After all it is our right, isn’t it? Yet when we strive to get right with God we need to give up those things that will separate us from Him.
Forgiveness is hard.
Forgiveness causes us to search within ourselves.
Forgiveness can cause us pain.
Forgiveness truly given allows us to grow.
Forgiveness provides us peace.
The fact is that we need forgiveness. And just as we need forgiveness we need to be willing to give forgiveness. This is a true testament as to where our hearts are with God. When we can openly forgive things that have been done to us by others. Because we have been blessed far more that we have been done wrong. We have been blessed by a God who loves us and who cares for us. This is far greater than any wrong that can be done by a mortal person.
We are allowing ourselves to let go of the past and are opening ourselves up to a far greater future. So though I have been struggling with forgiveness. I have come to realize that all this unwillingness is causing more harm to my relationship with God than good.
Are you struggling with forgiveness? I would love to pray for you. What is it that is keeping you from forgiving?I urge you to do like me and lay it all at God’s feet.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
This post is part of the Good Morning Girls on going series “Blogging Through The Bible” where a group of women and myself have decided to read through the Bible together and share our thoughts. Now you do not have to be a blogger to join in on this study. We in fact would love for all to join us in this journey which is why Courtney has a fan page for women to share their thoughts and thousands of women have joined closed/ secret groups to do this together. It is all about getting women in God’s Word. To learn more then just click the image below. I would love for all of my readers to be with me on this journey as we all grow in God’s word together. That is after all the only way to truly learn how to become a Godly wife.
While you are at it don’t forget to check out the rest of the Good Morning Girls posts from this week to receive even more blessings. These ladies truly are far more talented than I am on the blogging front and I am sure you will walk away far more blessed.
