Social media you either love it or you don’t simple as that. It is certainly needed if you are trying to promote your website and it seems to have become the only way most families have chosen to stay connected as well. I can’t help but ponder how things used to be before social media became such huge part of our lives.
I recently received an email and in that email, the reader asked me how does it feel to have so much of yourself out there for all the world to read about yourself….Terrifying was how I originally wanted to respond. You see I am a private person. I like keeping up with all my struggles and worries to myself. For some reason however God chose to have me share with you all. Gratifying. It is nice when I receive those emails or comments that tell me that I have in some way or another inspired them in their walk. Those days I see the reason God has me doing this.
Things I have had to learn about using social media is that what we post, type or video type need to reflect our walk with Christ. I log on to FB sometimes and almost instantly I am stunned at the things people post. I mean those momentary flare-ups can really damage our testimonies to others. Those pictures that we share from other pages may not share the same views we want to promote. Yet when we click share we are in fact doing so.
It is also very possible to share too much about ourselves in general. Oh yes, it is true. Those things that could be harmful down the road for us should not be shared. Totally embarrassing pictures of our children so don’t need to be shared. Arguments with our spouses again does not need to be shared. We need to weigh out those posts and truly ask ourselves what does that post say about us. I once read somewhere that when you sign up for FB you should invite your preacher to be friends with you on FB as well. That will surely keep you posting things that are healthy.
Social media and the internet, in general, can be great things as well. I have met so many wonderful people through social media who at this point I would be lost without. However, I found these friends in good ways. Mainly through ministries similar to this one. The internet is a great way to promote ministries and raise awareness to different issues as well. But we need to make sure to step back and actually evaluate ourselves and those media methods we are using every so often to see if it is achieving the goals we need them to or if they are becoming a greater distraction from our greater purpose.
I have been recently evaluating myself. Is my fan page and G+ promoting this ministry in a way God is pleased with? Are my posts on my personal page promoting me in a way that would be pleasing to God? Am I allowing social media to control me or am I using it just enough to get my points across?
The fact of the matter is social media is neither good or bad. We as people choose to make it that way. We can choose to use it to God’s glory or we can choose to make it a stumbling block in our walk and possibly others. Is it time for you to evaluate your social media life? If you haven’t taken the time to do so in a while then by all means take some time today to do so.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Hi Bridget, I cannot agree with you more! Maybe the thing that saddens me most is when Christians post ‘wise sayings’ from eastern philosophies e.g. Buddha. We should so come out from it! I have just published a new post on my blog emphasizing this message so beautifully also captured in Isaiah 52. Come out and depart and be pure! Thanks for this reminder 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by. I agree we should be checking out the things we are quoting as well. I will certainly stop by and check out your post. Have a wonderful and blessed day 🙂
These are the same questions I have been wrestling with lately. It can be tricky to find that balance of posting enough to have some impact, but not posting too much. It’s always a good idea to self-evaluate when it comes to social media rather than try to measure ourselves against what others are doing. Good post!
I agree it is so hard to find that perfect balance. I myself have to keep myself in check otherwise social media can really consume us and then we just aren’t as effective as we could be. Thank you for stopping by have a wonderful and blessed day 🙂
Hi Bridget,
Thank you so much for reading my post. I am too on the same journey to share with families Gods amazing word and to encourage and inspire in times of struggle but great blessings and promises 🙂 I struggled with social media sites about 3 yrs ago and yes we can indeed get sucked into the negativity and make wrong choices. We must guard our hearts and minds. This caused a fear in me to not even want to get back on these sites but I realize now that God can use anyone and anything to deliver His word. I am on this journey with you. Keep posting what God lays on your heart and I will share. Thank you for being a woman of God 🙂 Be blessed!
Indeed we do!! When we subject ourselves to negativeness we ourselves start to become that way. Reminds me of one of the says my grandmother used to tell me ” you are the company that you keep”. Only now we allow it into our homes by way of our computers and television screens. We must safe guard ourselves! Social media can be used in wonderful ways. It can allow us to spread Gods love in ways that where never thought possible in years past. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the internet world. Have a wonderful and blessed day 🙂
