Things in my little town have almost stop to a halt. You see, where I live we rarely get snow which means that when we do things kind of just stop. That is exactly what we had this week. As I watched my children playing in the snow and then return back inside for hot coco and snuggles I was reminded how much we needed this. Sometimes we need to rest.
No one needed this reminder more than I did. You see I have become so busy that moments where I simply sit and enjoy a moment are becoming to far and in between. Add in the fact that we started re doing the older boy’s room, decided to organize a huge birthday party, plan out the whole next school year and well all the other activities I do on a daily bases , it has left this momma a little tired. Scratch that it has left me overwhelmingly tired. So much so that I have found that I can not even sit to watch television for any length of time without falling to sleep and lets just say for the first time ever my body has given itself a bedtime.
This got me to really thinking. We are all like this. We as women work so hard and even though our bodies try to warn us that we are doing to much we continue to pile on more work. We have forgotten that we are not able to do it all. At some point we must rest. At some point we must relax and we must tend to our own needs.
God made our bodies with this need to rest at some point.
He even made it a commandment that we rest.
So why is it that we have decided to ignore all this just so that we can accomplish more in a day?
We have thrown ourselves into a fast pace world, where we feel we must be the best mom in the world, we must be a picture perfect wife, we must maintain a perfect home and well the list is endless. We have allowed these things to consume us to the point that we are no longer content with simply doing our best because we are striving to be the best.
The fact of the matter is that we will never be the best. We will always fall short in areas of our lives because we are not all gifted in the same areas. Instead of accepting this concept we continue to dig ourselves deeper into exhaustion and ultimately end up depriving ourselves mentally and spiritually because we just simply refuse to take a bit of time to recharge ourselves.
Requiring rest was never suppose to be a bad thing!!
At some point we decided that confessing that we need to slow down and that we need to rest was a bad thing. The fact of the matter is that needing to rest is far from a bad thing. It shows that you have been busy doing those things that God has entrusted to you. It shows that you have been busy. It also shows that you have been well blessed.
I would like to encourage you to join me as I strive to rest more so that I can care for my family in a more effective manner. I would also like to encourage you to join me as I put away the need to strive for perfection in certain areas in my life and instead I strive for accepting my personal best.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Very true. Rest is important and life can get so busy.
