Stubbornness……It sneaks in on us without us even realizing it. We become so set in our own ways or the ways that we are supposed to be. The sad thing is that stubbornness can lead us to harden hearts.
I would be lying if I didn’t confess that because I am such a creature of habit that I have a problem with things changing. Even more so I struggle with having to change things I am accustom to because I discover that the way I am doing things is simply wrong.
I become confused
I become conflicted
I become a bit defensive
Jesus met this type of opposition as he walked this Earth. Jesus sought to speak to their hearts and yet He was often blocked due to the traditions and personal understanding.
And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written,“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ Mark 7:6-7
So many times we get trapped in tradition, we get stuck in our routines and we allow our own understanding to cloud our judgment.
Just like the naysayers we begin to block our hearts from receiving the lessons that God wants us to learn.
Instead of relying on our own understanding we need to…..
- Constantly be in prayer.
- Constantly examine scripture.
- Constantly strive to put into action what is being shown to us.
- Constantly surround ourselves with people who are also actively seeking God.
After all, the last thing any of us wants is to discover that we have missed out on a blessing or a lesson from God because we ourselves had allowed our hearts to become hardened.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
Great post! I come from a long line of stubbornness and I love what you said here, “So many times we get trapped in tradition, we get stuck in our routines and we allow our own understanding to cloud our judgment.” This is so true. I’m trying to change some habits now into some better ones and it is so hard. Thank you for this post. God bless you
I a,so come from a long line of stubbornness LOL. It’s a hard trait to tackle for sure. But God isn’t finished with us yet.
