I was so excited as I sat down with my evening snack, “This is Us” had been so heavily promoted by my Christian friends that I simply had to want it. I may have binge watched it on Hulu so that I could get caught up on the episodes. I possibly began to fall in love with the “This is Us” family….Then I reached the current season. During that last episode, I viewed while cuddled to one of my babies I suddenly realized this show was not OK in our home.
As Christians, we are reminded in God’s Word over and over again not to blend in with the world but to set ourselves apart so that Christ might be seen through us and our day to day walks. Though it is easy to forget that not only does this include what we say, do and promote. It also means that we must be mindful of what we allow ourselves to consume our minds and our time.
When we allow programming such as “This is Us” who is openly promoting an un-Christian like lifestyle then we ourselves are allowing ourselves to become desensitized to the very things that we are to stand firm against. Instead, we are becoming like the masses. Accepting of sin and blinded to the big picture.
Our children are watching us, they are watching everything that we do, everything that we watch and everything that we say. If we do not safeguard ourselves then we are not teaching them to do the same. Of course, this also means that there will be a lot more shows that I will need to reconsider, then again maybe now is a good time to add a more wholesome activity to my late evening routine.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
I’ve never seen “This Is Us.” Like you, my Christian friends love it. I would love to know why you think it isn’t okay. What sinful attitudes does it promote?
