For as long as I can remember I have been involved children’s ministry activities. That is where my heart as always been because I know that children are the foundation for our future Church. Yet, recently I have felt a tug in a different direction. At first I was almost certain it was me allowing myself to get drawn in to a spiritual trap until I realized that this new pull at my heart was something different.
You see God changes our focuses during different seasons of our spiritual walk. Sometimes we try to fight it and other times we realize what is happening and reluctantly we follow. Unless you are like me and completely dislike change and then you fight it tooth and nail. It wasn’t until I realized that I was still serving in the children’s ministry because it was simply comfortable that I realized that I had a real problem.
I don’t think that God wants us to stay comfortable with our placements for to long. He lays on our hearts to serve in different areas so that we will grow and learn. Once we have learned what it is God needed us to learn then it is time then to seek what it is that God needs us to do next.
As Christians we are not meant to be stationary. We become unusable when we refuse to move to another adventure because we have become comfortable. We miss out on more important lessons that need to be learned when we become unmovable. We miss out on blessings when we refuse to focus on the new focus that God has laid on my heart.
This is something I have had to remind myself often this week as I have been working with our little guys during VBS. I have grown too comfortable. I have known for a while that God was changing my focus but I have been unwilling to actually follow where He is sending me next because frankly it scares me. Yet, I also do not what to become unusable and I certainly do not want to keep someone else from learning the lessons I have learned by holding on to positions that I currently hold just because I am comfortable.
This is when trusting God truly comes into play. After all we can not tell others to trust in God when we ourselves are not willing to do so ourselves. God changing our focus means that He is actually allowing us to trust in Him a little more. It is also allowing others see this trust.
So as much as it pains me to leave the children’s ministry I know that it is time. I know that God will put someone else in that particular position and I know that the children’s ministry will still continue to flourish. Not because I have stepped down but because God has someone else in mind to carry on the torch.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Another side to this is that we can potentially impede someone else’s ability to move into a ministry they are called to, if we don’t move when we sense God shifting us. Good post, thank you.
