Being content in our lives takes work. Contentment is not something that just happens. Far from it actually because we are a needy people. We always want something more. We always work harder to get the things that everyone else has. We all have even been guilty of commenting on our lack of satisfaction of our life placement. It is once again one of those pesky human nature things.
Often times we can not understand why someone has something that we want. Why is it that Sue down the street has such a nice car and I have a van that I am scared to drive? Why is it that so many people have children when there are others who do not? We forget to be content in God’s love and blessings. We forget to be content in the things that God has given us. We forget to trust that God is going to give us everything that we need. We simply forget.
Contentment is possible. It simply takes work. It takes commitment on our part to not complain about the things that we do not have. Instead, we need to focus on the things that we do have. Focusing on the pure grace that God has given each and every one of us. This contentment is important so that we can, in fact, continue to praise God the way that He deserves……
Because your love is better than life,my lips will glorify you.I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
Psalm 63:3-5
God’s love is better than anything else that could be provided for us on Earth. Nothing is better…..The fact that we have Him in our lives should be more than enough to have us shouting every single morning. It should, in fact, be the only thing that we are truly concerning ourselves with daily. Because the fact of the matter is that when we do come to this place of contentment all other things just fall into place. Those material things we want do not seem to matter.
We need to be cheerful in our placement in the world. We need to be content with the life that we have been given. Why is this important? It is important because if our mindset is otherwise we are opening ourselves up to a whole new world of discontentment. Instead, we are choosing to accept the blessings God is giving us.
A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil. Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred. Proverbs 15:13-17
Here we see that serving God with the heart of contentment is important. God knows our heart and He knows for what purpose we are doing all the things that we do. God does not want us to serve Him because we feel we have to. Instead, He wants us to serve because we want to. He wants us to do things and live our lives because we enjoy it not because we feel we must.
When we become content with our placement that God has placed us in we receive peace. There is no better feeling than to serve such a wonderful and loving God.
The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Proverbs 19:23
Are you struggling with contentment in your life? Why are you struggling so? Know that you are not alone. A lot of us still struggle with this all the time.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I am in the same place sister! I always feel like I could want, do, need, just a little more. God is slowly showing me the beauty right where I am!
This was really good, Bridget!! Thanks so much. I always need to read something like this. No matter what we have, it is too easy to want more….even if it is something from the grocery store 😉
