As a mom, I am fearful of a lot of things that are deemed as acceptable in society. There are so many things that can steer our children and even ourselves away from God if we are not careful. That is why it’s so important to take the time to cleanse our homes and those who are in our lives.
In Numbers Chapter 5 we see that the Israelites were given instructions to separate themselves from those who were unclean. This was to not only help prevent the spread of disease, but it was also to help from spreading unclean living influences to others. Though Numbers is part of the Mosaic law there are still some great principles to live by today hidden within these verses.
When my husband and I first started our Christian walk together we began to notice how certain movies, music and even books began to affect the way that we felt. Though we didn’t understand it at the time we started to realize the less that we watched certain programs, listened to certain music and were more selective about the things that we read that we actually began to have personality changes. These changes were a good thing. We were less argumentative and were actually more Christ focused.
The same can be said about those who we choose to be around. When we surrounded ourselves with worldly people we became desensitized to those things that were spiritually wrong. However, when we began to mingle with those who were strong in faith we began noticing changes that needed to be changed within ourselves. It was at that moment that I began to realize why we needed to separate ourselves spiritually unclean people. This does not mean that we do not still talk to those who do not have the same beliefs as us, but it does mean that we take greater care in things that we take away from those friendships.
In today’s world, it is so important to cleanse our homes of as much worldly influences as possible. Monitoring closely the things that we allow in our minds, our homes and more importantly our hearts. When one does this you will be amazed at the peace that will take place.
So What Do We Need to Cleanse?
- Things or people who encourage you to go against the Bible.
- Anything or anyone that does not edify Christian lifestyle
- Things or anyone that cause you to want to sin.
- Things or people that cause you to become discouraged about your walk.
As human beings, we are easily influenced by things and people that we surround ourselves with. In doing so, this causes a strain on us spiritually. Therefore spiritually cleansing our homes and relationships has never been so important.
