Sleeping in has always been a joy of mine. I love waking up late on a Saturday morning and just hanging out in my pajamas. Yet, there is something I am learning……..
Sleeping In Can Actually Ruin Your Day!
When I wake up early in the morning I can get my workout, devotional time and even a few cups of coffee in without being rushed. I am more focused and prepared for my family when they begin to wake up and I am more available to meet their needs with a joyful heart.
Here Are Some of the Benefits of Waking Up Early?
- Time to wake up before the madness of the day begins: Having even thirty minutes in the mornings to yourself can help you prepare mentally for the day at hand.
- It gives you time to find your focus: One thing that I always hear from moms is that it is hard to find time to study God’s Word. However, if we would all get up a little earlier (once your babies are sleeping through the night) you would have that time.
- It allows time for you to knock out your morning routine: Picture this…Being able to clean your bathroom without interruptions, or folding a load of laundry. This could happen if you are willing to get up a little earlier. Leaving more time for you to play with the children and do fun activities without being so rushed during the day.
Sleeping in can be an amazing thing. However, it can also be a very crippling thing if it is keeping you from getting the time you need to prepare your heart for your family and stealing time from you actually being able to enjoy your family.
How to Train Yourself to Wake Up Earlier:
- Start small: You aren’t going to be able to start waking up at 6 am when you are used to getting up at 9 am. Instead, try waking up at 8:45 am and then each week bumping it back by 15 mins.
- Don’t over plan your new found mornings: Again you are not going to be able to do all the things I listed in the very beginning. Start out with one thing that you find the most important to do in the quiet and build from there.
- Make sure to change your bedtime: If you are getting up earlier you are going to have to go to bed a little earlier as well. Again, adjust it by 15 mins and before you know it your body will get used to the change.
Please note: I will still be sleeping in on Saturday mornings because everyone deserves a treat. However, Sleeping in the rest of the week is no longer an option for me because my family deserves the very best wife and mom they can get.
