How is that even though we know something is good for us we still try to avoid doing it?
Every day at naptime it always becomes a huge power struggle. This time is usually filled with my children saying they need to go potty about a million times, they need one more kiss and hug or my personal favorite they will just let me know they don’t want one. I have tried naptime stories, movies and even music still they refuse to take their naps. Yes they know they must take one or they will be crabby all afternoon. They know it is good for them not to mention it is good for me as well!!
I would like to think as adults we always do what is best for us. Of course, you and I both know that is not true! We don’t always eat right, exercise enough, drink enough water or even get enough sleep. Gee, I wonder where our children get their stubborn nature from LOL. However, I am not going to discuss our physical health. Instead, I am going to talk about our spiritual health.
How many times do we put off doing our devotions? I know for myself if I don’t do mine first thing in the morning I find it difficult to find time to do it all day long. Between changing diapers, cooking meals, folding laundry, peeling this child of that wall, running here cuddling there and the possibilities for distractions are endless. And yet we know we must study our Bibles. Then we just can’t understand why our day isn’t going right. But could it be that it is because we having taken time to let God into our day?
When I am unable to get my morning devotions in here is what I must do…….
No matter what during my children’s downtime I make sure to have a morning do-over. I grab my cup of coffee, my pray journal and my Bible and make sure to invite God back into my day.
Now there are days with this isn’t going to work. Did I mention my children are boycotting naps? And on those occasions I have them join me for my devotions. Nothing more powerful for a child to see than to see their mother modeling the very thing you have been telling them that they should be doing.
After I do this I have noticed instantly my day starts getting better!! Now your schedule may differ from mine. Maybe you can find moments earlier than mine to restart your day. At any rate, make sure that you do 🙂
Your Assignment:
If you haven’t already done your devotions today then what are you allowing to stop you? Time to restart your day 🙂
