While reading Acts Chapter 7 I was hit with a harsh reality I am just like the priest who attacked the apostles and the disciples. Honestly to an extent we all are really. In Acts 7 Stephen spoke boldly to the Priests and the council members. And as he spoke to them he spoke some pretty harsh truths that honestly I think we all need to hear from time to time.
Through my life God has tried to reveal himself to me in various ways. Sadly most of the times I have turned a blind eye. Focused on doing the things that I felt was right or only doing the things that make me feel comfortable. More often times then not God reveals to me flaws within myself that I need to work on. Then again there are other times that God reveals to me things that He thinks I am ready for that I am almost certain that I am not ready for. Other times God is trying to make me step out of my comfort zone because He knows I am ready and well let’s face it who wants to be uncomfortable.
Human nature tells me I will be viewed differently if I follow God’s orders.
Human nature allows fear to blind me.
Human nature reminds me that going against the grain will cause people to treat and talk to me differently.
The Priest refuse f to change because they were comfortable with the way things were. This new way to salvation was way out of their comfort zone. It was to uncertain to them. It would cause them to do things way to different then from the way they had always done things. It would cause them to be on an equal playing field with everyone else. Not to mention it would make them admit that they had been wrong about Jesus.
“You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.” Acts 7:51-53
When God reveals His will to us we have a choice. We can listen and take notice or we can try to ignore it as long as we are willing to accept the consequences that comes with that. (Pesky human nature and free will) Though many times we will say that we will listen and take heed, the truth of the matter is that due to human nature we will try to ignore God’s directions.
This is why it is said:
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:14
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
