Some of the greatest influences in my life have been people you have and never will hear about. They are the men and women who silently serve others and make an effort to work behind the scenes in various ministries. They give of their time and energy to the lesser of their neighbors and who without a moment’s notices will drop everything to simply help a friend in need. I have never heard these individuals complain even though I know some days are tiresome. These individuals are the ones who caused me to see Christianity in a different light.
It stands to reason that if we all approached people with a servant’s heart that we to could become a great Christian influence to those around us, to those we serve and to those who witness our efforts from a distance. After all, haven’t we all been influenced by someone by the way that they serve others.
As we move through the Daily Moments with God- Philippians this past week there was a common thought that we should have all walked away with. In order to be a great Christian influence, we must be willing to serve.
Serving other like Christ means selfishly giving of ourselves to others, physically and mentally. It means that we have to be willing to give others needs more thought than our own needs.
As Christians, this is the mindset we are supposed to strive to develop within ourselves. One that is of a selfless nature not because it will benefit us but because it is exactly how our Saviour served.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
As a Christian body, we have become lazy in this practice. Instead, we can think of every reason in the book on why we can’t serve. I know I myself am guilty of a few. We forget that no matter what season we are in we can all serve in some way. We all have the ability to influence those around us by simply serving.
Here are a few ways that you can influences others and be a light even in a busy season of life.
- Volunteer at a Senior home (they love to have children visit)
- Call or text a fellow Christian with words of encouragement.
- Send a letter or a card through snail mail.
- Make an extra dinner plate or two to deliver to someone in the neighborhood.
- When running to do errands ask the neighbor if you can grab anything for them while you are out.
- Offer encouraging posts on FB, Twitter, and Instagram. The world is filled with enough negativity.
- Volunteer in one of the ministries at your church. Most churches are always looking for someone in the children’s ministry.
- Offer to have a child over to give a tired mom a break.
This list could go on and one. However, we have to be willing to step outside our comfort zone and do so. The bonus is that as we begin to seek ways to serve we ourselves will begin to grow a servant’s heart.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
