In a secularly driven world, it is so easy to loose hope. So many times we see others prospering when we feel that we are simply fighting to survive and we can’t understand because we are trying to remain faithful in a faithless world. So how is it that we keep your faith strong while living in a secular world?
One thing that I learned very early on is to look around me. Everything going on in my life may at times look horrific but when the storm passes over I am able to take joy in those moments a lot more than others who never have to weather storms. I also learned that in those storms that I have the ability to not only strengthen my faith but to also be a light to others around me. Too many times during the midst of our trials we lose sight of the fact that God is right there with us holding our hand and leading us. Instead, we feel as though we are all alone and this is simply not true.
Many times I have to simply stop myself and remind myself that God is bigger than anything that is going on right now. I remind myself often that though the world around me is caving into sin that I am loved by the one true King and that at the end of the day that is all that matters. Therefore, instead of focusing on trying to conform to the world that is unaccepting of Biblical principles I need to just keep my eye on God and God alone. We need to remind ourselves often that our faithfulness here on Earth is not in vain no matter what others may say.
Finally, to keep our faith in a secular world we need to make sure that we are surrounding ourselves with those who will help us grow spiritually. We need to be with others who will encourage us to pick up our Bibles daily, who will walk beside us as we apply what we learn during study times and those who will be willing to not only praise with us in the high times but to go to God on our behalf in the low times. Those we surround ourselves with are more of an impact on our spiritual lives and our faith-building than we realize. Being part of a sound Church and having sound Christian friends is a must.
Maintaining our faith in a secular world isn’t easy. However, if we keep our focus on Christ, nothing is impossible.
