Every morning (well most mornings) I wake up feeling like I can take over the world. I have my day mapped out. Activities planned on what I want to do with the children. I even have posts to type for you all whisking through my brain. As the day goes on…I grow tired… I grow weary….I lose my zeal……
Losing your zeal is actually pretty easy to accomplish. As a matter of fact in our Christian walk it happens more times than not. Think about it. When you first got saved you were so excited to join every committee your Church had an opening for. You were excited when it came time to knock on doors. More often times than not you couldn’t wait to tell others the great news.
Something however changes in us. We grow tried during our walk. Which comes from allowing the world to beat us down. Oh that is really not hard to let happen. Watch the news sometime it is bond to happen which is why we really don’t watch the news here. We have circumstances come out way that harden our hearts a little bit. Sometimes we even forget that we were not always a child of the King and we become a tad judgmental of others. Slowly that glimmer of light that once was seen by all is replaced by a tired worn down Christian.
We allow our zeal to be stolen.
We forget who it is we belong to .
We allow the world to define us and not God.
We listen to others and not God.
We allow our focus to change.
Now there are some ways to safe guard ourselves from allowing these things from happening and of course most of them you have heard me say time and time again..
Work on your relationship with God daily….We give so much of ourselves as women. We tend to the children which is a ministry. We tend to our husband’s needs which again is a ministry and a lot of us work at our Church’s doing different things which again is a ministry. So in order to keep our fire burning for God we must make sure we are giving it some fuel.
Get yourself some accountability partners…..I have 3 accountability partners. We all actually live in different parts of the States and one actually lives in another country. Yet I can go to those three ladies at any given moment and they are there to pray for me. They keep me grounded. They remind me why it is I work so hard at home, online and in my local church. Your accountability partner doesn’t have to be someone you see all the time but it does need to be someone that you trust.
Make sure to rest…..Yes, I am a workaholic. I admit it. Sometimes I will work myself silly if my husband doesn’t step in occasionally and tell me to slow down. It is in my nature. I am constantly being reminded that Rome wasn’t built in a day. The problem with this trait of mine is that not only do I run myself dry. I also start to loose my zeal. I forget what it is I am actually doing all this work for. It is no longer a labor to glorify God act. It instead becomes like a job. So I have to make sure that I rest. Rest is very important and is very much so needed.
How about you? Have you lost your zeal in doing God’s work? Are you allowing the world to steal your zeal? My prayer for you is that you will in fact remember who it is that you are serving and take comfort in that.
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
Great reminders. I love that being in the word and it could just be a verse that you need to meditate on. Thanks for sharing.
