It’s amazing the effects that our memories have on us. Smells can remind us of certain people or foods. Certain sounds can bring back and overwhelming feeling of emotions. Like that favor song that you had when you were younger that still makes you smile because it is the same song that made you think of the man of your dreams. Certain places can bring back memories of simpler times. Times that sometimes we really wish we hadn’t outgrown.
Recently my family and I were given the honor to revisit a place that held special memories to me. The little ones thought it was so much fun trying to imagine their mom as someone who used to be young (their words not mind). It was also fun re-visiting those memories with them because in those moments they were making memories of their own.
Now about our trip:
When I was a little girl I had a teacher named Mr. Woosley. He was the first one who sparked my interest of gaining knowledge within me. Sure I was only 5 but I will never forget some of the life lessons that were taught in that very room.
At the end of the school year he tool us on our class field trip……To his fully functional and working farm. I remember that day being bittersweet for me because I knew that soon our school year would be over. There would be no more silly songs, awesome reading rocket ships or crazy stories. I will have to admit…..I cried on the way home.
To end out first year of homeschooling I thought it would be fun to re-live those moments on the farm with my children. I also happened to be fitting since we had just finished a farm unit together. Who knew that after 26 years I would be greeted at Mr. Woosley’s farm by his wife and himself. They gave us all the same tour that I had received many years ago. With maybe a few minor adjustments. Either way it was a fun and interactive tour. Which I should add came complete with silly songs and wonderful stories.
If you could re-live one memory with your children from your childhood, what would it be?
