This school year has felt like one of those roller coaster rides that excite you and scare you all at the same time. We started out the year with our oldest beginning his 5th grade year in our local public school. Due to the continuous look of defeat on our son’s face as he struggled day in and day out. (He struggles with ADHD and medication is not an option for us. I will try to explain that all in another post). We decided to finally take the plunge to homeschool.
I was amazed at the changes that took place in our oldest. He began to show more confidence in his ability to succeed. Along with the fact I have watched him work the hardest I have ever seen him work academically to succeed.
Finally the year ended with his yearly required assessment test where he totally blew me away. It was a moment of confirmation for me as I read his test results. We were doing just what God wanted us to do. (Please note I am not one of those who feel homeschooling is in fact to educate our children.) We could not be prouder of our 6th grader!!
So what is next on this journey our family is on?
Well we have decided to homeschool year round. This seems to be a better fit for us since our children are really excelling. All their new curriculum has been ordered (for those who will need it) and this momma has been in full planning mode, as I prepare to teach not only a 6th grader but also a Kindergartner (be still my heart).
So what will we be using?
As a family we will continue to utilize unit studies. These have all been children led. Which means that who knows we may be studying Christmas in October. But that is completely ok!! After all children learn best what they are interested in. I will be tailoring these studies to each child’s particular academic level. We will also continue to do family devotions as a group as our school’s Bible time. (Warning the links below are affiliate links. )

Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
I would like to invite you to my Facebook group Christian Homemakers in Training where we dive into homemaking, motherhood, marriage and group devotions. After all, we all need a safe place to grow together, right?
My son is entering 6th grade for the 2015-2016 academic year. This year, it sounds like we had a similar year. He struggled with different subjects, too. But, I was blown away with end of the year test results. My son went to public school until the middle of 3rd grade. They had him in remedial reading. They had him 2 grade levels below for reading comprehension. He placed at the 9th grade level on his test this year. I do not stress grade levels just do his best. I am so glad we decided to homeschool! This is what is best for our family! Thank You for sharing!

Oh how amazing. Yes we pulled our son this year and it was culture shock for us. We are currently playing catch up in some areas but I am blown away with how far he has come. Thank you for sharing your journey with me.
