Almost daily I am reminded that God is in complete control. I am also reminded that He is a God of details. Even more so I am reminded that if God calls us to do something, no matter how impossible the task, He will make a way.
Israel demanded a king. God took this as a sign that they were rejecting Him as their King and protector. Instead, they felt they needed to be like the world and have a human form of a ruler. Much like today, they were willing to put their faith into a man and not God. They, of course, were reminded of the potential damage this could cause but again they were certain that they knew best not God.
And the LORD said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.
1 Samuel 8:7
Sometimes, God knows that we must learn from our own mistakes. He knows that some of the best lessons are learned through living through a situation. Therefore, He, of course, gave them their King.
Yet, the man He had chosen seemed to be a little more than reluctant to take his place as King. He was actually informed of his new role while simply looking for his uncle’s donkeys. I can’t imagine how weird that dinner was between Samuel and Saul. Saul being confused and Samuel trying to continue to remind him that it was God’s will.
And yet, God had a way to prove that all that Samuel was saying was completely true…..
As for your donkeys that were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them, for they have been found. And for whom is all that is desirable in Israel? Is it not for you and for all your father’s house?” 1 Samuel 9:20
Saul set out to find some donkeys and yet once again God used a normal situation to help prove that He is in control and to provide a reminder that when He calls you to do something He will take care of the details.
Saul, however, reminds me of myself sometimes in this situation. Though he has been told these things he still felt he needed proof. Proof that God really did have this all under control and just like God does me often He provided Saul with all the proof he needed.
Yet, Saul continued to keep what he has been called to do to himself. I can imagine he was overwhelmed by the thought of what his calling was going to require of him. How his calling was going to change his life. There were lots of uncertainties when it came to his calling. After all, he was going to be the first king that Israel ever had!
Saul once again reminded me of myself when we discover that he is found hiding from the people. I too allow fear to sometimes consume me, causing me to not do things that I know I should. In fact, with most of us, our callings are extremely scary. The unknown factors can be almost mind numbing.
But some worthless fellows said, “How can this man save us?” And they despised him and brought him no present. But he held his peace. 1 Samuel 10:27
Things to Remember From This Week’s Reading:
- God always listens to our cries.
- When God reveals your calling to you there is no turning back even when you want to hide.
- If you calling has been blessed by God, He will work out all the details.
- Even when the world doesn’t believe in you God is still right there beside you.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this week’s reading. When have you experienced God working out the details in a situation that you simply did not see as possible?
Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Hm,
